Frequently Asked Questions

Are homeopathic medicines safe?

Yes.  Homeopathic remedies have a 200 year-old track record of safety and can be used by everyone including expectant and nursing mothers, infants, children and the elderly.

Does using homeopathic medicine have side effects?

Homeopathic medicine is free from toxic side-effects, although you may experience a “healing crisis” in which symptoms temporarily worsen for a day or two and then get better in response to your body’s natural healing process.

How are the remedies chosen?

Homeopathic medicines are chosen on the basis of a person’s mental, emotional and physical constitutional type, unlike orthodox medicines, which treat in a ‘one-size-fits-all’ manner.  A homeopathic medicine is chosen on the basis of totality of symptoms.

Because every person is so unique, homeopathic medicines are individualized.  The homeopathic practitioner treats the WHOLE PERSON, believing all symptoms are interrelated and seeks to select a medicine which fits the whole state.

What will the homeopath need to know?

The homeopath needs to know every minute detail about you to be able to best serve you and begin a healing regimen. We need to know: What are the major characteristics of your personality? What would you say are your unusual habits? What is your temperament like? We ask this, so that we can find the right remedy for you.  The homeopath needs to understand you, your nature, any peculiar habits you have, your past medical complaints, details about your childhood, anything that might disturb your mentally and your emotional state in order to reach the core issues of your case.  Anything you confid your homeopath is strictly confidential.

Do I have to take homeopathic medicines for a long time?

Usually not. The duration of the treatment depends upon the nature of the disease and the fighting capacity of the person’s body. The treatment is required for a certain time period so as to improve the resistance of the body to fight diseases. Taking into consideration all these factors the treatment is continued for a certain time frame for your benefit. Once you start improving we stop the medicines and the natural immunity and control mechanism of your body will take care of the rest of the problems.

Do I have to stop taking my medication?

No.  You should not stop the medicines which you have been taking.  It should be tapered gradually once you start improving, but this should be done in consultation with your treating physician. In some cases where the other medicine cannot be discontinued, both medicines should be continued for your benefit. The treatment should be planned and properly administered by both your attending physician and your homeopath.

Why is private homeopathy expensive?

Actually it isn’t expensive per unit time. Homeopaths need a lot of time to talk to you before choosing the correct remedy. This is because the medicine needs to suit you as well as your illness. S/he really needs to understand you. Most homeopaths need more than an hour sometimes two for the first consultation with you. Other specialists may see 4 patients in that time. Compare what private homeopaths earn a minute to what other medical specialists in private practice earn a minute and you will see that homeopathy is not expensive compared to other medical specialities.
